Since the establishment in 1997, the Opening University of Kaohsiung has acknowledged the importance of general education in university. In view of this, students of this school have to obtain 20 credits in the courses of general education before applying for graduation. General Education Center was the former General Education Core Curriculum Committee, and was officially changed to the current name in 2008 for the administration of general education courses.

Objectives

The courses of general education are designed in keeping with the courses of the other departments, in an attempt to improve the quality of urban and family life, enhance community empowerment, and achieve the educational
objectives of “lifelong learning,” “broad knowledge and elegant temperament,” and “integration of creative abilities.”

Specialties of the Center

Besides promotion of whole-person and liberal education, the Center takes it as the goal to offer courses based on the educational objectives involved in the courses of the other departments, improve the industry-government-academia cooperation, and expand students’ learning horizons. It is expected to achieve the goal of improving the quality of urban and family life, enhance community empowerment, and achieve the educational objectives of “broad knowledge and elegant temperament” and “integration of creative abilities.”

Curriculum Planning
