General Education Center

Brief history

Since its establishment in 1997, Opening University of Kaohsiung has acknowledged the importance of general education. In view of this, students of this school have to obtain 20 credits from the courses provided by the General Education Center before applying for graduation. General Education Center was the former General Education Core Curriculum Committee, and was officially changed to the current name in 2008 for the administration of general education courses.

Objectives

The courses of general education are designed in an attempt to improve the quality of urban and family life, enhance community empowerment, and achieve the educational objectives of “lifelong learning,” “broad knowledge,” and “integration of creative abilities.”

Specialties of the Center

Besides liberal education, the Center aims to offer courses based on the educational objectives involved in the courses of the other departments, improve the industry-government-academia cooperation, and expand students’ learning horizons. It is expected to achieve the goal of improving the quality of urban and family life, enhance community empowerment, and achieve the educational objectives of “broad knowledge” and “integration of creative abilities.”
